hahaist011's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- back east they don't know about gallup wal-mart oh, i know you didn't say i'd ever like american office the same. i think that was my petulant rebellion against what other people think is funny. sunday nights are bad. lesson plans are hard. wondering if those kids will finally stand up and be like, "yo you're a fraud." i was watching the dallas/chicago game with sru boy and girl and this other kid, and somebody goes, "what's the funniest movie ever?" somehow _old school_ became equivalent to _lebowski_. and not so much _american movie_ (though, oddly enough, _hands on a hard body_...which i haven't thought about since 2001). anyway, i was trying to just be cool and not say anything at all, but i was thinking about bob hope and _arsenic and old lace_ and how _hard target_ and _no retreat no surrender_ are the funniest movies ever. and how brandon walsh (version 2.0) is the funniest movie ever. blah blah blah. today at school, the cp (as in, college prep) classes were doing setting. i was trying to get them to think about using setting to support their stories, to decide based on a story what's important. i asked them what else i should say besides "room D203," and they tell me to name the high school and then the town (or "burnside junction"). anyway, i was like, "oh, and then say arizona?" and they NODDED. and i was like, "NOOOO! are we not in a sovereign nation?" i said that if i were to post a story on the internet, i'd make sure everyone knew i was writing from within the navajo nation because it'd make me seem so rad. i explained that i am like 3000% cooler for having moved here and that they should all go east for a little while just to be really popular. start cults. lead people into battle. they giggled and stuff--as is their wont when i start going a little nuts--but they seemed to get a kick out of it. understand that, here, the word "rez" becomes "rezzed out," which is a colloquial cousin of "ghetto." as in, "t and r feed is the most rezzed out of all rezzy markets." i have to remember to remind them that people elsewhere will think they're freeeking cool just for being navajo. and i need to figure out a way to tell them that a lot of those people will be orientalist-style assholes. 7:28 p.m. - 2007-09-24 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
