hahaist011's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- nicole the mountain biking gallup girl i want to forever remember this sweeeeet conversation i had with some girl i met the other day. because it is the best example of a conversation being slightly off (without being creepy) that i have ever experienced. the problem is i can't remember it as well i probably need to. so this girl named nicole is a civil engineer who lives in gallup, and she's nice. nice enough, anyhow. i mean, jesus, i'm not going to get all stoked about *another* white chick with a north face jacket and The Natural Look. so nicole mentions something about the golden globes and cate blanchett in that (bob) dylan movie. (this, i remember now, is because the bluegrass band was playing "i shall be released.") i continued the conversation in what i believe was a perfectly appropriate extension of the protracted small talk of the evening. i will recreate it: me: it's always hard to approach the cult of dylan, you know? there're all these zillions of people who feel this intensely private, individual relationship to bob dylan, and they all end up in the same place. all jealous. i guess i just always feel like my 13 year old self is colliding with a billion other 13 year old selves. it's unnerving or something! nicole: yeah, whatever--that doesn't matter. what the fuck?! so, alright, i wasn't exactly making a lot of sense or being very interesting. but, let me remind you: no make up white chick who talks about zero degree sleeping bags! likes some bluegrass and bob dylan! please believe: i'm interesting enough! anyway, am i wrong, or was "that doesn't matter" like totally, completely not her line?! you can't say something like that, right? some other day i'll just have to get around to writing about how the north face crew is bad for my Get Out and Make Friends resolution but really really good for my Stop Feeling Like You're Not Good Enough resolution.
